Preview – Gospel Brunch at the 606 - Sunday October 9th

Over the years, our somewhat unusual monthly gospel-jazz mash-ups at the 606 Club have drawn a diverse audience of interested jazzers and contemporary gospel fans alike, writes group member Alison Beck

Led by irrepressible MD Tracey Campbell, our group’s ten members were chosen from the London gospel and jazz scenes and include celebrated pianist-about-town Ross Stanley on keys.

There is plenty for the discerning jazz enthusiast to recognise and appreciate: contemporary gospel, whilst essentially a groove-based genre, is packed full of improvisation and jazz-influenced harmony. If you like Liane Carroll, Dianne Reeves, Take Six or Stevie Wonder, you will find lots to enjoy at the monthly brunches.

It is something of a cliché to describe gospel music as uplifting and inspiring, but I can honestly think of no better words to describe the feel of a 606 Gospel Brunch. The mood is unfailingly good-humoured and celebratory - and it’s very open to people of any faith and none.

The next 606 Gospel Brunch is this Sunday October 9th , and the group will also appear at the 606 as part of the London Jazz Festival at 1.30pm on 13th November. 606club.co.uk
