Jazz polymath/Messiaen composition pupil /writer/ producer/ composer/ magazine editor Andre Hodeir died yesterday at the age of 90. There is a fine obituary in French on the Radio France website giving the extent and importance of his influence on the French scene. He made his biggest mark in the Anglo-Saxon world with the book "Jazz: Its Evolution and Essence," and within it, the essay on the form of Concerto for Cootie . RIP.
