Eddie Harvey in conversation with Dave Gelly, Thursday May 19th Richmond

Trombonist/Arranger/Educator Eddie Harvey is one of the legends of British jazz. Now 85, I spoke to him briefly on Friday, and in his unassuming way he told me he was just completing and printing of another brand new arrangement for a class he was taking on Saturday afternoon. He is still an integral part of the British scene. And would that all of us will still have Ed's enthusiasm and energy at eighty-five.

A detailed biography is on the Jazz In London site but here are a few extracts:

-Member of the John Dankworth Seven.

-Arranged and composed music for the British bands of Humphrey Lyttelton, John Dankworth and Jack Parnell (at Associated TV and "Sunday Night at the London Palladium").

-Toured opposite the famous Gerry Mulligan and Modern Jazz Quartets.

-Played with American bands including Woody Herman and Maynard Ferguson.

-Wrote music for the Benny Goodman Orchestra.

Eddie will be talking about some favourite recordings with Dave Gelly at Richmond Adult College, a minute's walk from Richmond station, this Thursday at 7pm
