Peter Slavid, one of the organizers of the Mayor's Thames Festival, writes:
This weekend sees the Southbank of the Thames come alive as part of London’s free end-of-summer party. There’s not a huge amount of jazz – but there is some if you look for it.
On Sunday at the Southbank centre in the Hungerford Bridge Car Park there is a whole day of Jive, with live bands, DJs and dancing all day!
On Saturday on the stage at Tate Modern there’s a set from the amazing voice of Eska and then the headline act is Soothsayers. And an eclectic mix of other styles too
There’s lots of other music stages at various locations from Jubilee Gardens to Tower Bridge - tango, massed choirs, an electro-swing speakeasy, a Korean stage, and more.
Saturday also sees Feast on the Bridge – an opportunity to dine out on Southwark Bridge which is closed for the day. Meanwhile on both days there’s lots happening on the river with boats galore. Sunday sees the famous illuminated night carnival, finishing up with fireworks on the river.
Something for everyone – a real free party and increasingly one of London’s unmissable events.
